Hopes and Dreams
Tuesday 4:30-6:00pm and a required 20 minutes of Small Group Hebrew Learning on Wednesday or Thursday
Our sixth grade students meet twice per week, on Tuesday afternoons in our J*Star program from 4:30-6:00 and for a 20 minute online small group Hebrew session on Wednesday or Thursday.
Recognizing that our sixth grade students are entering new schools and beginning their b’nei mitzvah process, our revised sixth grade curriculum strives to create immersive Jewish learning experiences that lead to action, strengthen the interpersonal relationships of our students and their families, and create a deep sense of belonging to the TST and wider Jewish community. Students will explore Torah stories and the character traits of our biblical ancestors to respond to their own questions about what being Jewish means to them today. They will also engage with the story of TST and the people who made that story happen and continue to make the story happen today. Additionally, they will participate in the Bnei Mitzvah program of Moving Traditions.
Our sixth grade students will work in small groups to hone their Hebrew, prayer, and chanting skills in preparation for b’nei mitzvah at times of their choice on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons.
Becoming B’nei Mitzvah is an affirmation of the commitment to living Jewishly as an adult. Students will explore what it means to take responsibility for their Jewish identity and practice. Students will focus on prayer leadership skills gaining the confidence to lead worship.
