Sydney Rose Lazar is currently a second-year cantorial student at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Before beginning her cantorial studies, Sydney attended the Hartt School of Music, where she earned a Bachelor of Music with honors, graduating summa cum laude with a major in vocal performance and a minor in music history. After college, Sydney was thrilled to return to her native New York and gain professional experience in two unique synagogue communities: serving as the cantorial soloist at West End Temple in Rockaway Park, and a membership associate at Temple Emanu-El in New York City. Sydney is a Weitzman Fellow for Global Jewish Leadership with the JDC, and a Birthright Israel Fellow with the iCenter.
Sydney is thrilled to be part of the Shaaray Tefila community and to have the opportunity to learn from the amazing clergy team and congregants. In her spare time, Sydney loves traveling, reading, and searching for the best coffee shop in her Brooklyn neighborhood.
