DOROT is one of our community partners in making sure our seniors have the assistance and connection they need to live a full and vibrant life while aging in place in NYC. We are delighted to share a listing of resources they are providing to the NYC senior community.

Please  reach out with any questions to Dorot’s Information and Referral specialist Danielle Kramer at IR@dorotusa.org or directly to Ellen Finney at efinney@dorotusa.org or by calling the main number (212) 769–2850 and leaving a message.

DOROT Onsite at Home

This was previously an onsite program, and is now available nationwide. We have made changes and moved all of our on-site programs onto a digital platform – these are now Zoom-based classes. To register and receive a weekly email of the upcoming classes, please send an email that includes your name and phone number to dorotprograms@dorotusa.org. For those seniors who don’t have computers or technology (smartphone/tablet/cell) with cameras, all are still welcome to participate in our Zoom programming by dialing in over the phone.

If someone would like to participate in our programs but doesn’t know how to use Zoom, please email technologyhelp@dorotusa.org. We’ll be happy to connect them to one of DOROT’s volunteer Tech Coaches by phone, who will be able to assist.

University Without Walls

These are telephone classes now available nationwide—invite your friends from out of town to join you! In addition to our programs offered over Zoom, please be sure to check out DOROT’s University Without Walls (UWW) classes, which offer a range of enriching offerings over the phone. For a listing of new May and June classes and all UWW options, click here.

Kosher Meals at Home (KMH)

West 50th Streets to West 125th Streets and East 50th to East 96th Streets
DOROT has increased our home delivered meal programs and during the time of the Covid19 pandemic we are extending the meals to Kosher and non-Kosher individuals (on an emergency basis). Kosher meals are provided on a sliding scale cost from $1 to $5 per meal. There is currently a fluid waitlist for KMH and spots in the program change weekly. To inquire, call the main number (212) 769–2850 and leave  a message, or email Information and Referral specialist Danielle Kramer at IR@dorotusa.org.

Door-to-Door

Serving East 96th to East 4th Streets and West 59th to West 125th Streets.
This signature program has remained one of the busiest and most called upon. Although our six travel companions are working from home at this time they are able to assist seniors who are unable to reach out to grocery stores or pharmacies and place orders for delivery by the store. Seniors will need to pay for groceries by credit card or be invoiced by DOROT. If there is an older adult that is unable to access groceries due to severe financial constraints please contact the manager of Door to Door, Anna Becker at doortodoor@dorotusa.org as we may be able to provide some assistance.

Caring Calls

Caring Calls are open to new and already connected adults over 60. DOROT volunteers are able to call an older adult once or twice a week and have a 30 minute conversation with them. Pre-Screened Volunteers are randomly assigned to the senior at home and will call them over a 4 week period with the option to re-up by both the volunteer and the senior at the end of the 4 weeks. To inquire, call the main number (212) 769–2850 and leave  a message, or email Information and Referral specialist Danielle Kramer at IR@dorotusa.org.

Connect through Tech – Tech Coaching

For brand-new Zoom users. If you’d like to participate in our programs but don’t know how to use Zoom, please email technologyhelp@dorotusa.org. We’ll be happy to connect you to one of DOROT’s volunteer Tech Coaches by phone, who will be able to assist. To inquire, call the main number (212) 769–2850 and leave  a message, or email Information and Referral specialist Danielle Kramer at IR@dorotusa.org.
