Why it’s so Important for Jews to Protect and Strengthen American Democracy - A Call to Action!

29 Feb @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

In person only
Open to members & non-members

Join us for a conversation with Aaron Dorfman, the Executive Director of A More Perfect Union: The Jewish Partnership for Democracy and learn how we can work together to safeguard  and repair our increasingly fragile democracy and keep the US a great place to be Jewish.

REGISTER IN ADVANCE

Deadline to register is February 26.

As Mr. Dorfman recently wrote in a letter to The New York Times (Dec. 31)

“For nearly two and a half centuries, even amid painful setbacks, the United States has offered one of the last, best places to be Jewish—not because it catered to Jews, but because its democratic pluralism, albeit aspirational and imperfect from the beginning, allowed minorities like ours an opportunity to live freely.  When that democratic pluralism struggles, we shouldn’t prematurely mourn its loss. We should repair it instead. This is not naïveté; it’s the agency our parents and grandparents came here looking for.”

Threats to democracy and a corresponding rise in antisemitism are creating a great sense of fear and despair for many Jews.  But ACTION IS THE ANTIDOTE TO DESPAIR!  Explore with us how taking action as a Jewish community can repair our democracy AND give us hope.

This talk will serve as the kick off to the Shaaray Democracy Campaign leading up to the 2024 Elections.  We will follow this evening with three programs addressing critical issues confronting Democracy such as Christian Nationalism,  voter suppression, how to combat misinformation and improve your media/news literacy. All of this will be combined with opportunities to take action through advocacy,  post-carding, phone and text banking, registering young voters and getting out the vote!

IT’S GOING TO TAKE ALL OF US TO PROTECT OUR FREEDOM AND OUR PLURALISTIC DEMOCRACY.
