When a loved one dies, their legacy and their sacred story is with us forever. As a community, we are there for you as you remember your loved ones l'dor va'dor, from generation to generation.
Yahrzeit & Yizkor Services
Yahrzeit marks the anniversary following the death of a loved one. A Yahrzeit letter will be sent to a member via email approximately six weeks in advance of the specific Shabbat when the yahrzeit is observed. The name of your loved one will be read on the Shabbat of their Yahrzeit. If you are a member of Shaaray Tefila and would like to add the name of your loved one to be read, please contact our clergy department at (212) 535-8008 x240.

Temple Shaaray Tefila is privileged to be your spiritual home, where we can honor the memory of your loved ones. Each year, you have the opportunity to make a charitable donation in their memory. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Memorial Plaques
You and your family can also observe the memory of your loved ones in our sanctuary with a memorial Yahrzeit Plaque, which is an engraved bronze plaque. A light corresponding to your loved one’s name is lit on the Shabbat of their Yahrzeit, during Yom Kippur, and at each Yizkor service throughout the calendar year (Simchat Torah, seventh night of Pesach and Shavuot).
Each plaque includes one full name and takes approx. 10-12 weeks to arrive. There is a one-time cost of $1,800.00 which is 100% tax deductible.

Book of Remembrance
During the High Holy Days, we may especially feel the absence of those loved ones we’ve lost. We are privileged to offer the opportunity to remember them at this season with the support of your community through our annual Book of Remembrance. Each year before the High Holy Days, you will have the opportunity to review a prior year’s listing or add a new listing in the Book of Remembrance. This book is given to all members on Yom Kippur. Donations to support the design and printing of this book are greatly appreciated.
