Music

Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel taught 'music is the only language that is compatible with the wonder and mystery of being.' At Shaaray Tefila, led by Cantor Todd Kipnis, we believe in the wonder and power of music. It lifts our souls with our favorite Jewish melodies during worship services, and our spirits with a show tune or familiar pop hit at one of our special concerts throughout the year. Whether you join us to sing along or just listen, we hope you'll come and experience the music of our community."

Our Choirs

Interested in adding your voice to Shaaray Tefila? Join one of our wonderful congregational choirs! Under the direction of Cantor Todd Kipnis, you'll connect with other music lovers, experience Jewish music from the traditional to the contemporary, and perform at Shaaray Tefila worship services and programs with the occasional event out in the community - like our Junior Choir performing the National Anthem at Citi Field!

Learn more about our choirs below and reach out to Cantor Kipnis by email at [email protected] or by phone at 212-328-9415 to add your voice!

Kol Rinnah

Adult Choir
There are no auditions, and no prior experience necessary. We gather for the fun of singing, and the joy of contributing to the musical and spiritual life of the congregation. Not sure if you can join for a whole year? No worries! Join us for one service or for a few, but we’re pretty sure you’ll be hooked.

Shir Leadership

Teen Choir
We hope that this opportunity allows for teens to gain valuable experience as music and worship leaders and to be inspired by the melodies they perform. Participants are tapped for solos and duets while also performing together as a group.

School of Rock

Junior Choir, Children Grades 3-7
Join our choir that performed - awesomely, we might add - the National Anthem at Citi Field for the last two years! Rehearsals take place Monday evenings from 6:00-6:45pm and include a pizza dinner.
