Social & Learning

Social & Learning

We seek to build relationships and community in all we do, and bringing our members together to find meaning and purpose is at the center of who we are.

We invite you to discover the many ways to connect with your fellow congregants through cultural, social, and educational opportunities.

Classes and Series

Delve into Jewish learning with our clergy and visiting scholars throughout the year. From dropping by for a lecture to enrolling in our multi-session classes, we offer a range of opportunities to deepen your knowledge and explore your interests.

Check our Upcoming Events for upcoming classes and series

Kol Rinnah Choir

Choir members gather for the fun of singing, and the joy of contributing to the musical and spiritual life of the congregation. There are no auditions, and no prior experience necessary. Not sure if you can join for a whole year? No worries! Join them for one service or for a few, but we’re pretty sure you’ll be hooked. Contact Cantor Kipnis if you are interested in adding your voice.

Manna

Jewish food is a powerful pathway to cultivating Jewish belonging and joy. Shaaray Tefila’s Manna initiative connects and strengthens Shaaray Tefila’s existing food related initiatives while piloting new opportunities for the community to learn, deepen relationships and grow through thoughtful and tasty food-related experiences and programming. Contact Linda Neiman if you would like to learn more.

Men’s Club

Our Men’s Club provides opportunities for male-identifying congregants to connect with each other through several social events throughout the year.  Some events have been World Series and March Madness watch parties, latke making, bowling and more. Contact Cantor Kipnis or Andrew Alpert if you are interested in getting involved.

Shaaray Circles

Shaaray Circles is our small groups initiative. Consisting of lay-led groups of about eight to ten Shaaray Tefila members who will meet once a month, coming together and creating space for conversation and community on a variety of topics and areas of interest. Groups may meet online or in person. Contact Andrew Alpert if you are interested in participating or starting your own circle.

Sisterhood

Our Sisterhood strives to bring together the women of the congregation to explore and celebrate what it means to be a Jewish woman of Shaaray Tefila, New York City, and the Jewish community around the world. Contact Linda Neiman if you are interested in getting involved.

Social Club

Shaaray Tefila Social Club is for adult members, regardless of gender, marital status, or family structure, who are interested in building community and creating friendships through social and educational engagement at Temple Shaaray Tefila. The Social Club strives to build connections through fun social events and cultural programs, and deepen engagement in Jewish life through thematic learning opportunities. Contact Andrew Alpert if you are interested in getting involved.

Torah Study

We offer two ongoing opportunities to delve deeper into the wisdom of the Torah. On Saturday mornings at 12:00pm, we have our weekly Torah Study both in person and online, where members of the congregation are invited to study the weekly Torah portion together. On Wednesdays at 12:30pm, join us on Zoom for Torah Talk, a verse by verse journey through the Hebrew Bible, exploring its meaning for our times. Come to one or both. No previous knowledge is necessary, all are welcome. Contact Jonathan Chamberlin if you would like to learn more.

Trips

We are thrilled to offer several trips a year with our clergy. Our travel experiences range from travel to Israel to visiting the cradle of the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama. Contact Jonathan Chamberlin if you would like to learn more.
