Please join us in person and online for Erev Shabbat services. We welcome special guest Deputy Inspector Noreen Lazarus of the NYPD, Commanding Officer of the 19th Precinct. Deputy Inspector Lazarus is the Commanding Officer of our local precinct, and she will share some reflections on the work of the NYPD in keeping Jews and all people in New York safe. We will have time during the oneg to chat with her and her officers as we get to know some important people in our neighborhood.
About Deputy Inspector Lazarus
Deputy Inspector Noreen Lazarus is a 22-year member of the New York Police Department (NYPD), recently appointed as the Commanding Officer of the 19th Precinct in Upper East Side Manhattan.
A dedicated leader with deep roots in community-focused policing, Lazarus brings extensive experience from high-profile precincts across the city, particularly in Manhattan North, where she has served for a total of 12 years.
Her career trajectory highlights progressive leadership roles: She previously commanded the 24th Precinct on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Prior to that, she served as Executive Officer (XO) of the 24th Precinct, as well as XO of the 28th Precinct in Central Harlem.
Assignments include Lieutenant in the 20th Precinct and Sergeant in Patrol Services Area (PSA) 5.
Beyond frontline command, Lazarus has contributed to specialized NYPD functions, including Policy and Data Analysis at the Office of Management Analysis and Planning (OMAP), and work in the Domestic Violence Unit. A commitment to professional development underscores her service: Lazarus holds a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice from the University at Albany and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy's Session 279.
In her new role as Commanding Officer of the 19th Precinct, Deputy Inspector Lazarus is dedicated to fostering strong community partnerships, prioritizing collaborative efforts to enhance safety and trust on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
