Beni Wajnberg, Assistant Rabbi
Rabbi Beni Wajnberg (pronounced Vine-berg) feels blessed to serve the Temple Shaaray Tefila community as of July 1, 2015. Rabbi Wajnberg was ordained from the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles, where he also earned a Masters in Hebrew Letters. Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Rabbi Wajnberg received a BA cum laude in Psychology from the Rio de Janeiro Federal University.
During his training, he served as rabbinic intern, hospital chaplain, student rabbi and teacher in congregations, hospitals and nursing homes in California, Montana, Ohio, Tennessee, Argentina and Brazil. Rabbi Wajnberg has also been actively engaged with Just Congregations, the Reform movement's Community Organizing/Social Justice strategy both on congregational and state levels.
Rabbi Wajnberg's intellectual interests include Jewish mysticism, Hasidism and Jewish Thought. He is committed to using his rabbinate to inspire love for Judaism and yiddishkeit, to bring more compassion and Justice into the world, and to create sacred relationships with those that he meets and serves.
Rabbi Wajnberg spends his spare time engaging with his personal passions: painting (for the soul), running (for the body) and cooking (for the in-between). He is one of the last few avid fans of Botafogo, a Brazilian soccer (or even better, "real football") team. Rabbi Wajnberg shares his life with his two dearest loves: Miriam - his partner and sweetheart - and their son.
Rabbi Wajnberg values the opportunity to get to know you - no matter who "you" are - and not in the "sure, let's set a time" but never going through with it sort of way; but as in: please, send him an e-mail, give him a call, or come say "hi" in the hallways.
