Shaaray Tefila and HIAS -
Working Together to Help Refugee Families
So many of our parents, grandparents, and great grandparents were blessed to make their way to this great nation as refugees. Once they arrived on these shores, many were aided by an organization that was then known as the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, now known simply as HIAS.
Temple Shaaray Tefila is proud and excited to have been named by HIAS a a refugee host organization. As such, our congregration will partner with HIAS New York to help a newly arrived refugee family resettle and build a new life in New York City.
Our tradition commands us to welcome the stranger, because we know the heart of the stranger. As we help a family build a new life in America, we may just discover something new to love about New York ourselves. And in doing this, we will be living out the Jewish values of our sacred congregation.
