Anticipating Broken Dawn Blessings w/award-winning poet Adam Sol
Adam Sol’s fifth collection of poems follows the trajectory of the prayers recited during the morning shacharit service and asks, How do we respond to others’ pain and suffering, both the pain of those we love, and the larger global suffering of a world in crisis? What role does blessing have in that context? Before our Selichot service, Dr. Sol will share some of his new work and discuss the interplay between poetry and prayer as we prepare for the High Holy Day season.
Adam Sol’s newest collection of poetry Broken Dawn Blessings, is published by ECW Press in 2021. He is also the author of How a Poem Moves: A Field Guide for Readers of Poetry and four previous collections of poetry. He is the Coordinator of the Creative Expression & Society Program at the University of Toronto’s Victoria College, and lives in Toronto with his wife, Rabbi Yael Splansky, and their three sons.
