Support Shaaray Tefila

Tzedakah

/tsɛ • dɒ • ka/
  1. Righteous giving.
  2. The act of realizing that we can make positive change and improve the world around us.

Every gift of tzedakah affirms our mission, invests in our current and potential programs, supports our inspired worship and exciting initiatives, and helps us continue to build and strengthen our sacred community for years to come. Your commitment and generosity help sustain Shaaray Tefila as a warm and welcoming place where our community can seek meaning, connection, and purpose.

Ways to Give

Above & Beyond Membership

Our members make Temple Shaaray Tefila the sacred place that it is. We have deepened and expanded our community by focusing on our core vision - that Temple Shaaray Tefila is a source of meaning, connection and purpose for our members. We rely upon the generosity of our community to supplement the dues and school fees that comprise the majority of our budget. We give special recognition to those who have supported the congregation through their Enhanced Membership or through contributing an additional, optional 20% to their dues. This ongoing commitment and generosity above and beyond dues enables our leaders to plan wisely, to support excellence and innovation, to sustain essential services and programs, and to continue to wholeheartedly welcome and retain all who wish to be part of our sacred community, regardless of financial circumstances.

Annual Appeal 2018-19 • 5779

We rely on the generosity of our community to supplement the dues and school fees that comprise the majority of our budget. Donations to our Annual Appeal enable us to attract and retain talented clergy and Jewish professionals and to provide our entire community with programs for education, celebration, social action, and community-building. The Annual Fund also enables us to fulfill our value of not turning away members in need of financial assistance. We are grateful to those, both within our synagogue membership and within the broader community, who have contributed to this Appeal, affirming the importance our community places on Jewish tradition and values.

5779 Annual Appeal from Shaaray Tefila President Barri Waltcher:

Annual Spring Benefit

Shaaray Tefila's annual Spring Benefit is the largest fundraising and social event in our community. In addition, each year, the Benefit in affords us the opportunity to honor members of our community whose history with and dedication to Shaaray Tefila are inspirational. Check out photos from last year's benefit honoring Liz & David Sherman!

Dedication & Sponsorship Opportunities

Honor a special person, enhance your celebration of a simcha (joyous occasion), mark a lifecycle event, express appreciation, or memorialize a loved one in a most meaningful way. Your contributions are fully tax deductible, and upon request, notification of your tribute will be sent to the person being honored or to the family of the person being remembered.

A Gift in Honor of Clergy

Celebrate a family b'nei mitzvah, wedding, or birth with a gift in honor of one or more members of our clergy for supporting you in your family's milestone moment. We ask that you consider an increased gift to our Annual Appeal so that we can ensure that Shaaray Tefila remains a source of meaning, connection, and purpose.

Ritual Object Dedication

When we gather in our sanctuary, connecting with this sacred community, we are surrounded by beautiful ritual objects. Dedicate one of these objects in memory of a loved one or in honor of a special person or occasion as a meaningful and lasting tribute.

Lobby Tablet Inscription: $100,000
Yahrzeit Memorial Plaques: $1,800 (see below for details)
Torah Binder: $1,800

Prayer Book Dedication

Shabbat Edition: $50
Weekdays & Festivals Edition: $25
Books may be purchased in multiples of five.

Yahrzeit Memorial Plaques ($1,800)

Honor the memory of your loved one with a Yahrzeit Plaque in our Sanctuary. As the individual lights next to each plaque are lit each year on the anniversary of your loved one's death and on major festivals, draw once again from the wellspring of their memory to bring comfort and strength.

Shabbat Oneg ($360+)

The Oneg Shabbat following our Friday evening services offers an opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate, welcome guests, and connect with friends after a long week. Sponsor an oneg in honor of a special person or occasion (engagement, aufruf, wedding, baby naming, bris, graduation, etc.) with a donation of $360. Each oneg provides an assortment of finger foods, challah, soft drinks, and desserts*, and your sponsorship will be acknowledged during our Erev Shabbat service.

*Please Note: We are not able to honor specific food requests made by oneg sponsors.

Other Giving Opportunities

While there are many ways to make a meaningful contribution to Shaaray Tefila, we ask that you consider an increased gift to our Annual Appeal which allows for much of our programming to happen, and which ensures that Shaaray Tefila remains a source of meaning, connection, and purpose, for all who seek those things. If, however, you would like to discuss making a gift to a specific program or restricted fund, please contact Anna Stein, Director of Development at 212-328-9393 or [email protected].
