MAY AT SHAARAY TEFILA . . .

The first full week in May opens with two major events. On Tuesday evening, May 6, we honor members Jill and Michael Franco and Katherine and Clifford H. Goldsmith for their support for our congregation at a Dance Party Gala. Proceeds from this event will help support the many wonderful and important services provided to congregants and the community.

The following evening, Wednesday, May 7, the entire congregation will enjoy our Yom HaAtzmaut Festivities, as we celebrate Israel’s 60th birthday and Israel Independence Day. Events run from 5:00 to 9:00 pm, and there is something to enjoy for all ages!

Mid-Chai will hold its first planning meeting on Tuesday, May 13 at 6:30 pm. If you are part of the baby boomer contingent in our congregation (roughly ages 45-65), please join Mid-Chai and help brainstorm plans for next fall, winter and spring. After two successful events during the past few months, Mid-Chai is ready to rock and roll!

SAGE presents Dr. Gregg Rubinstein at their monthly program on Thursday, May 15 at 6:30 pm. Dr. Gregg will discuss “Life Without Limits,” or, as he puts it, “If you knew you’d live to 100, how would you change your life?” SAGE welcomes all senior members of the congregation at their programs and events. RSVP to lgreene@tstnyc.org. (Supper will be served.)

The entire congregation will Spring Into Social Action! on Sunday, May 18 when we hold our Spring Mitzvah Day. On this day of hands-on community service, you may choose from twelve volunteer projects, both at the Temple and off-site. There are opportunities for all ages. Among the Temple-based activities are our Spring Blood Drive, Sanctuary Stitchers, and "Sandwich Saturday" on Sunday.  Please click here for complete details and registration information; projects are filled on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t delay!

On Wednesday, May 21, we will hold our Annual Meeting and Volunteer Recognition Evening. We will honor long-time member and master volunteer Woody Greenberg, as well as recognize all of our members who volunteer to serve our congregation and the larger community through Shaaray Tefila programs.  The evening starts at 6:30 pm; light supper will be served.

NASHIM offers their annual Café Or on Monday evening, May 19 at 7:30 pm, and all Temple members -- men and women -- are invited. Laura Slutsky, comedienne extraordinaire, joined by her accompanist Paul Chamlin, will headline this night of comedy and music for adults of all ages. Be prepared to laugh—and learn—as we feature this top-notch performer, a frequent guest of Oprah, Larry King Live, The Charlie Rose Show, and others.

Our Youth Groups, Religious School, Adult Education Committee, Young Professionals and Single Boomers have many events scheduled in May. Be sure to check our website Calendar for complete listings of all upcoming programs.
